“We pride ourselves on the very high level of service we provide and are mobile funeral directors, so we can come to you, which can make organising a funeral just that little bit easier.”
Originally we were known as G Barrell & Sons in Christchurch have been working with Canterbury families for over 145 years.
Originally advertising in 1876 as an “Undertaker providing a Hearse” the business has been through many positive changes over the years, and in 2013 co-branded with Simplicity Funerals.
Today, Jamie Harvey, who has over 10 years experience in New Zealand funeral service, leads our team of qualified and experienced funeral directors. We pride ourselves on the very high level of service we provide and as funeral directors, we can come to you or, you can come to our funeral home which can make organising a funeral just that little bit easier.
Our team can give advice on all aspects of funerals and can also guide you through pre-planning funeral options – just ask us. Whatever your needs, we will look after you with care and compassion so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
Jamie Harvey – Manager & Funeral Director
Jamie came into the funeral industry in 2011 following 2 family members passing away. Jamie has also worked in Nelson and Oamaru as a funeral director and in management roles. Jamie is passionate about providing excellent support, guidance and care for loved ones, as families try to navigate their own grief journey. Providing outstanding care and support and listening to our families to provide a level of service that goes above and beyond their expectations is what we all do naturally here at Simplicity Funerals.
Jamie and his husband Karl, originally from Christchurch and having lived and worked in other parts of the South Island are glad to be back "home" and enjoy spending time exploring Christchurch and the surrounding areas and spending time with their friends and family.
Mike Chandler – Funeral Director
Mike’s journey into the funeral industry began in 2002 as the result of a very good church colleague dying unexpectedly at a young age. Mike has historical ties with the Salvation Army, where he and his family regularly worship, so there has always been a passion around helping people.
Mike knows that it is a real privilege to help people at the time when a loved one dies, and is committed to doing as much as he can to help ease that pain. Mike is married to Trish, he has two lovely adult married children, and three very special grandchildren.
Nick Allwright – Funeral Director
Nick is passionate about the funeral industry having first joined as a Funeral Directors assistant in 2017. He made the move across to Simplicity Funerals in August 2019 and brings with him a fresh perspective into funeral service.
Nick is married and lives in Halswell with his wife Kimberley, and their two young children, daughter Laura and son Taylor. Nick and his family attend church at Grace Vineyard West Campus, where Nick serves as a musician. Nick has a huge passion for music and has been crafting his passion of playing guitar and drums for over 20 years.
A large reason for Nick choosing to work at Simplicity Funerals was the opportunity to journey with families at a hard point in their lives and offer support, empathy and guidance through this time. Nick looks forward to progressing in his new role as a Funeral Director.
